Intro Letter for Mick Lopez

Hello fellow 422 bloggers and credential-ers. My name is Marcial Lopez, but I go by Mick (my dad, grandfather, and I all have the same name, so I’m the one with the nickname). I was born and raised in Escondido where I went to a couple of schools. Recently I graduated from California State University Long Beach as a Criminal Justice major, but now I’m back. I am a loyal, strong, and true alum of Escondido High School. Before that I went to Grant Middle School, now aptly Mission Middle School, Glen View Elementary for grades 3-5, Juniper for 1-2, and Oak Hill for kindergarten.

My experience with technology, while certainly not the most advanced, is somewhat up to date or at least I feel that I can learn new aspects quickly. I’ve grown up with a computer in my house since elementary school, so typing and being able to use various programs and applications comes generally easy once I get acquainted to whatever it is I’m using. Likewise, using new cell phones, iPods, and other handheld items, again, generally are easy to learn once I start tooling around with them. And while not an avid gamer, I pick up most video games swiftly. I’m a PC person, but I do interface with Mac’s pretty well. See the theme? A couple of my roommates from last year and friends use(d) them. I think we have Office 2007 on my home computer.

What speaks most to me from the COE Mission Statement is the commitment to service, among other things mentioned. While I definitely do not hold a big grudge or am completely jaded by it, I remember the teachers who I could tell didn’t care, perhaps were just “out of it,” or didn’t connect with me and the class. I know that partly it could have been me being lazy at the time, in particular, I remember one teacher who turned me off and away on a subject. Eventually I was trying to get it down, but wasn’t doing well on my tests. Their inspiration was for sure lacking, it showed, and I think that is where I get my own motivation. That instructor did more of a disservice and it was a big challenge to go forward when I was lacking some of the foundation to continue. So I guess I do have something to thank them for anyways. And when I think of the statement about “on-going service,” that is what kind of comes to the surface or incubates in me. So using what this class offers, I would love to apply technology for the classroom in order to keep the interest and engaging factor of learning maintained.

Oh, and in no way do I advocate liking the Yankees based on this photo. It was a fun trip to New York, however, the Yankees must be destroyed.

Best of luck and wishes!
